As obstacles and rejections in life close doors and opportunities disappear or are postponed, it is easy for a servant leader to become emotional and feel disappointed, especially when a lot of effort, energy, prestige, and time have been invested both professionally and personally. One perspective to handle and deal with these thoughts and feelings regarding disappointment and self-pity is to change perspective: “There is no failure. Only feedback,” as stated by Robert Allen. Once you have landed on and accepted this new perspective, it is time to take action and stop feeling sorry for yourself regarding feelings of rejection and defeat by obstacles that you have not yet overcome to achieve your goals. One piece of advice I have personally used and highly recommend is “Mistakes should be examined, learned from, and discarded; not dwelled upon and stored.”This quote is attributed to Robert Allen. It is not easy to do, but it works.
